The Story of  the New Era Cap Company

The New Era Cap Company, based in Buffalo, New York, is the largest and fastest growing headwear manufacturer in the United States. Founded in 1920 by Ehrhardt Koch, New Era has grown to be the exclusive manufacturer and marketer of the official on-field cap worn by every Major League Baseball team and their minor league affiliates, and maintains agreements with other licensed entities including NHL, NBA and over 200 colleges and universities. On the street, New Era is known as the Originator of the True Fitted for its signature cap style, the 59Fifty.

The brand recognition of New Era and the 59Fifty has resulted in the cap becoming a popular fashion element. The most popular logo used in cap designs is the New York Yankees. Although New Era is rooted in sports heritage as the official on-field cap of Major League Baseball, they've evolved into a brand that can be seen on the runways of Paris during Fashion Week and in hundreds of music videos on MTV. New Era is seen as an iconic brand that celebrities, entertainers, musicians, and athletes are seen wearing today. New Era has an entire line called Capture the Flag, which has celebrities design their own cap which is then distributed exclusively to boutiques in select cities. Celebrites such as Jake Burton (snowboarder and Burton Snowboards founder), Hideo Nomo (MLB All-Star pitcher), and Danny Way(professional skateboarder) have all designed caps for New Era. Conscious of the fashion status of the 59Fifty, New Era has taken care to produce MLB team caps in a wide range of styles and a large assortment of colors and fabrics.

Along with the 59Fifty, New Era produces styles like the 49Forty, 39Thirty, 29Twenty, EK, Capture the Flag, and also designs womens and kids caps.

The 49Forty is a fitted, lower profile cousin to the 59Fifty, and has a more casual, collegiate look.

The 39Thirty is a strength fit cap, and is used by MLB as the batting practice cap.

The 29Twenty is an adjustable, unstructured cap.

The EK line is dedicated to providing innovative and distinctive hats and caps that put a premium on materials, quality, and design. EK reflects individual style and taste.

Capture the Flag headwear is designed by celebrities and sold exclusivly through boutiques in select cities around the world and only produces 288 of each cap designed.
